Paul Hissey will lead the charge on MA Moelis’s expansion into natural resources sell-side research as an executive director. He has more than 20 years of experience, including as an analyst at Goldman Sachs and RBC Capital Markets.
Hissey began his career as a geologist in mining operations at BHP, before switching to capital markets. He most recently worked as the chief financial officer of listed gold junior Navarre Minerals, which is currently in receivership.
The new role marks his return to sell-side research. He will be based in Melbourne.
“Paul brings significant experience and deep sector relationships to the team. Natural resources have long been a global strength of Moelis & Co, our strategic alliance partner, and we are looking forward to building our resources offering in the Australian market,” MA Moelis Australia’s head of markets Simon Scott said.
Its second hire, Tom Tweedie, is returning to the firm after a stint on the buy-side including at Bennelong Equity Partners and Platinum Asset Management.
Tweedie would be a vice president and rejoin the small and mid-cap industrials research team in Sydney.
The company established its equities platform in 2010.
