CLSA mining and metals research analyst Rob Stein is taking a familiar route.

Street Talk understands Macquarie Group has poached Stein to replace former head of resources research Hayden Bairstow.
Bairstow, who had spent a decade in sell-side research at Macquarie, resigned in August to head up research for Perth-headquartered resources specialist Argonaut. He had previously led CLSA’s Australian resources research.
Stein joined stockbroker CLSA in December 2020 to head up its bulk commodities research, covering names like Fortescue, Woodside and Pilbara Minerals.
He came with real-world sector experience, with eight years at mining giant BHP under his belt and two years at MMG Limited, overseeing its investment portfolio and business plans.
