Mama Earth co-founder and CEO Ghazal Alagh recently warned Indian skincare enthusiasts about over-relying on Korean beauty products as they may not be a good fit for Indian skin.
«I bet you've heard of or even used Korean skincare products. But did you know their formulations might not be the right fit for you?» she wrote on LinkedIn.
Why Should Indians Refrain From Becoming Over Reliant On K-Beauty Products?
According to the entrepreneur, since unlike Koreans, Indian skin has a high amount of melanin, we are more prone to skin issues such as tanning, pigmentation, dark spots etc. Moreover, elaborate skin care rituals can also accentuate skin issues rather than solve them.
«They (Koreans) mostly have cold and dry weather, and hence they can layer 8-12-step skincare. For us, it might not work. In our hot and humid climate, as we sweat, a 12-step skincare routine will lead to clogging of pores which can lead to acne,» she warned.
Alagh suggested that although Korean skincare products can be included at times, they shouldn’t become the mainstay of desi beauty regimen. She advised followers to choose skincare products according to their skin type rather than relying on trends
