Manipur BJP MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh has sought fencing of the India-Myanmar border in Mizoram similar to to what is done on the Manipur side to control the influx of illegal immigrants from Myanmar.
Imo Singh who is son in law of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh stated in X, “One of the main causes of this conflict in Manipur, the issue of Illegal Migrants from Myanmar, and the State of Mizoram has stated that it will ignore the Home Ministry’s directive to safeguard against illegal migrants in the region, which will also help to protect all indigenous people of the country."
«It will have far reaching consequences across the North Eastern States, changing the demography of the whole region.
Urge PM @narendramodi and HMAmitShah to fence the whole Indo Myanmar border of Mizoram, like the way it is about to be fenced in the Manipur side. Also request CMs of all NE States to take note of these issues seriously and work unitedly to tackle such issues.
Manipur is already bearing this brunt, let us all unite to save the region. @himantabiswa @SangmaConrad @PemaKhanduBJP @Neiphiu_Rio.”
Manipur has around 400 km and Mizoram has 510 km unfenced border with Myanmar.
Recently Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh has requested the Union Home ministry to cancel the free movement regime (FMR) with Myanmar.
Singh while talking to media persons in Imphal recently said, “Our government has requested the Union Home Ministry to cancel the free movement regime. Security forces have not properly guarded the border, they should be deployed at zero point, they were found guarding the border 14-15 km inside Indian territory.”
FMR allows people residing on both sides of India-Myanmar border to venture 16 km deep into each other's territory
