The Committee will be headed by K.
Jayanta Singh, IGP(Administration) of Manipur police.
Director general of police Rajiv Singh in an order stated, “There have been various reports/ allegations of use of excess force by the Security forces during maintenance of law & order situations in the last few days in the Imphal area. To verify such complaints/ allegations, a committee is being formed to look into the issues and submit the report at the earliest.
The Committee will be headed by K. Jayanta Singh, IGP(Administration), Manipur and assisted by Th.
Sanatomba Singh, AAIG(Administration).”
Manipur BJP MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh has stated in X, “Due to excess use of force by the Armed Forces in the last few days, the State Government has initiated a Committee which will be led by IGP Adm Manipur to take action against any personnel involved for any excess committed. Strict action should be taken against any of these officials involved so that such acts are not repeated again”.
Manipur since Tuesday has witnessed fresh protests by students protesting the killing of two young students by unidentified armed assailants.
The state government in a statement had stated that it has come to the notice of the State Government that the photos of two students who have been missing since July, 2023 have surfaced on social media. It may be noted that this case has already been handed over to the CBI as per the wishes of the people of the state.
