State government to spell out the measures taken to protect the abandoned homes of displaced persons in Moreh. Security forces recovered five unexploded bombs which were detected in the adjoining areas of Bishnupur and Churachandpur Districts.
These were disposed of in-situ by the Bomb Disposal Team of Security Forces. A Bench of Justices Ahanthem Bimol Singh and A Guneshwar Sharma heard the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Congress leader Khumanthem Devabrata Singh.
It has been submitted by the counsel appearing for the petitioner that after passing of the two interim orders by this Court directing the respondents to provide adequate security at the Moreh for safeguarding the abandoned houses and properties of the displaced people, there have been two instances of burning down of about twenty empty houses and looting of properties belonging to the displaced people. The counsel also submitted that there has been total failure and lapses on the part of the security forces stationed at Moreh to safeguard the properties of the displaced people despite the order passed by this Court.
Counsel further submitted that in the affidavit filed by the State authorities and the Central Government, nothing has been explained about the lapses on the part of the security forces in safeguarding the houses and properties of the displaced people. M.
