Manipur government has suspended the mobile internet data services, internet/data services for five days till October 1.
The state government on Tuesday stated, “In view of the prevailing law and order situation in the State of Manipur, the State Government views very seriously with utmost sensitivity the reported spread of disinformation, false rumours and other types of violent activities through various social media platform such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc.
on electronic equipment like tablet, computer, mobile phone etc and sending bulk SMS likely facilitating and/or mobilization of mobs of agitators and demonstrators, which may cause loss of life and/or damage to public/private property or aggravates the law and order situation in the State".
The State Government decided to suspend/curb the mobile internet data services, internet/data services through VPN in the territorial jurisdiction of the State of Manipur for 5(five) days with immediate effect till 01-10-2023.
On Saturday after almost 143 days, a ban on the internet was lifted on in strife torn Manipur. Internet services were banned immediately after the ethnic violence broke out in the state on May 3 and were periodically extended considering the prevailing law and order situation.
Schools closed
After the massive students’ agitation on Tuesday to protest against the killing of two young students by unidentified armed assailants, the Manipur government has closed all the schools till September 29.
A notification of the Manipur Education Department said that in view of the prevailing law and order situation, the government, government aided and private schools across the state would remain closed till September 29.
