JSW group, Tata Power, Vedanta, among others, have. increased their intake of women engineering graduates at the entry level, even as the sector still remains predominantly male dominated.
In 2023, JSW group has nearly tripled the number of women engineers hired through gradate engineering trainee (GET) programme as compared to last year. It has hired more than 2,300 young GETs, of which nearly 600 are women and has set a target of 30% in the next two years.
L&T inducted over 3,000 GETs in FY23 across its various businesses, of which 30% were women engineers. Tata Power has 23% women representation among engineering trainees in 2023, up from 21% in 2022.
Out of the 1,,300 GETs to be onboarded by Vedanta this year 30% are women, up from 27% gender diversity in the cohort in 2022. This comes at a time when many top business groups have diversified into new and emerging business areas adjacent to their core business which is driving the need to bring in fresh ideas and promote innovation through greater diversity.
Impetus. is also coming from a need to widen the talent pool and an attempt to build a future pipeline of women professionals by grooming them early.
