Meta, owned by Mark Zuckerberg has terminated near about 24 employees from its Los Angeles office as a result of repeated misuse of the company’s $25 meal credit system, reported The Telegraph. The terminated employees used to exploit the meal vouchers, which were intended for having food inside the office, to purchase items such as toothpaste, detergents for laundry, and even wine glasses.
According to The Telegraph, such kind of misuse by the employees was revealed following an internal investigation which eventually showed the pattern of abuse which also included instances where an employee could be seen sending the meals to their home when they were not present in the office.

Among the employees who were eventually dismissed, one was a high-earning engineer who admitted to repetitive usage of meal credits for household goods.
The Telegraph noted that the terminated individuals justified their actions by making claims that they did not want to waste the credits on days when they were not eating at office. Though, the investigation conducted by Meta categorized the violations into serious and minor infractions while some employees received warnings for occasional misuse, employees with repeated offences were terminated.
