The benchmark BSE Sensex gained 226.85 points or 0.30% to close at 76,759.81, while the broader Nifty 50 index closed at 23,249.50, higher by 86.40 points or 0.37%.
Financial stocks provided the biggest boost to the benchmarks, with the Nifty Financial Services index closing 0.4% higher, while the Nifty Bank posted advances of 0.3%. Shares of benchmark heavyweight HDFC Bank closed nearly 1% higher.
Non-banking lender Bajaj Finance ended 2.3% higher after posting a bigger quarterly profit due to strong loan growth.
Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) ended 4.4%, advancing in late trading hours after the state-owned firm reported a 47.3% growth in its profit after tax (PAT) for the third quarter ended December 2024. BEL shares were the top gainers on the Nifty 50 benchmark.
