Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch its first electric car next year. Meanwhile, a senior executive of the automaker today revealed the company's EV plan at the Times Now summit.
Shashank Srivastava, senior executive officer (marketing and sales) at Maruti Suzuki India, said that EV penetration is expected to reach about 5 percent next year from the current 2.1 percent. He mentioned that EV penetration will dramatically increase thereafter.
Srivastava stated that the total EV penetration in India will reach around 20 percent by 2030, and Maruti is planning its EV strategy accordingly.
The Maruti Suzuki executive also emphasized that brands need to address range anxiety to boost EV sales.
According to reports, Maruti is planning to launch its first electric vehicle, the eVX (due in 2025), through NEXA. The EV is expected to run on a 60 kWh battery pack and offer a range of up to 550 km.
Suzuki Motor Corporation in Japan has designed the EV, with plans to export it as a made-in-India product to Europe and Japan.
