Invesitng.com — The House voted Tuesday to oust Kevin McCarthy from his position as speaker — an historic outcome that hasn't ever been seen in Congress.
The vote to remove McCarthy followed an earlier vote in the House failed to table, or block, the effort to remove him. McCarthy's future as speaker was thrown into doubt earlier in the day after House Democrats signaled ahead of the vote that they would not bail him out.
The historic effort to oust the speaker of the house, was led by Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, together with a bloc of hardline Republicans, who criticized the speaker for working with Democrats to pass a temporary funding measure on Saturday that averted a government shutdown.
Focus will now shift to McCarthy's successor, though there is uncertainty as to who will emerge as the front runner.
