Uttar Pradesh's Meerut defied all odds to establish a Guinness World Record.Vikas Swami, who endured a life-altering bike accident in 2010, achieved this feat by lifting over 80kg with his mouth in a handstand position last month. This accomplishment follows his earlier entry into the Asia Book of Records in 2021, where he lifted an impressive 121 kg. Vikas Swami's journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.
The accident in 2010 left him severely injured and clinging to life. Medical experts had given grim predictions, declaring that he could succumb at any moment due to a nail embedded in his head. Despite defying these odds, the aftermath of the accident was financially and emotionally draining.
He had to swiftly return to work as a driver in a private school to make ends meet, battling partial memory loss and enduring the hardship of putting his job above his own well-being. In 2012, Swami's path took an unexpected turn when he turned to yoga for his recovery. Beginning with rudimentary knowledge acquired from a beginner's book, he embarked on a journey of self-healing through consistent practise.
Over the years, his injuries gradually healed, and his determination paved the way for the accomplishment of incredible feats. The challenges didn't cease. In 2019, strict government regulations regarding private school bus operations led to the loss of his job, pushing him towards becoming a yoga instructor in a private school.
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic struck, rendering him jobless yet again. During the subsequent lockdown, Swami harnessed his determination to practise weightlifting in a handstand position. Starting with modest weights, he steadily progressed, now being capable of lifting over 100 kg.
