Melissa Barrera has responded publicly after she was fired from Scream VII over her comments on the recent Israel Hamas war.
«I will continue to speak out for those that need it most and continue to advocate for peace and safety, for human rights and freedom.
Silence is not an option for me,» said the actor in one of the Instagram story she posted after getting fired from Scream franchise.
Melissa played Sam Carpenter who is the older sibling of Jenna Ortega's Tara Carpenter, in 2022's Scream and Scream VI.
She has been responsible for the franchise earning $108 million at the domestic box office, as well as $60 million in international territories.
«As a latina, a proud Mexicana, I feel the responsibility of having a platform that allows me the privilege of being heard, and therefore I have tried to use it to raise awareness about issues I care about and to lend my voice to those in need,» added Melissa Barrera in response.
On the recent conflict that has been escalating since October 7, the actor posted her views about the issue on social media platform 'Instagram.'
“Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp,” she wrote in one post on Instagram stories.
“Cornering everyone together, with no where to go, no electricity no water … People have learnt nothing from our histories. And just like our histories, people are still silently watching it all happen.

After her comments, she was fired and the studios have issued a statement regarding their decision to remove the actor.
