Meta has officially announced on Wednesday at its Connect event in Menlo Park, California, regarding the launch of the latest virtual headset, Quest 3S, for $299, which will come out of the company's lab. Quest3S is cheaper than its predecessor, Quest 3, whose price is $499. Quest 3s will start selling on October 15, and its retail price will be $299. Meta has made a bold move as it positioned the new headset as a full computer, which will compete with Apple’s $3,499 Vision Pro headset, whose launch was done in February. Meta has also displayed a prototype of fully augmented reality smart glasses, Orion, and it won't be available for sale to the customers. Meta has achieved milestones due to the success of Quest VR headsets, which became the bestselling devices in the market, as per CNBC.

Millions of units have been shipped largely due to their competitive pricing compared to other VR competitors. However, despite this commercial success, the company has yet to ignite a cultural phenomenon or establish a vibrant mainstream software ecosystem around virtual reality.
