Mirwaiz addressed the gathering at Jama Masjid after four weeks as authorities had put him under house arrest. Following his release from over four year long house detention in September 2023, authorities have detained Mirwaiz on most of the Fridays and didn't allow him to go to Jama Masjid on different pretexts. Mirwaiz has also filed a petition in the J&K High Court challenging his frequent «informal house arrests.»
«By next week a new government will be formed in India. We again hope that whoever comes to power takes a realistic and humane approach in dealing with the Kashmir imbroglio. For me and Hurriyat the option for dialogue and deliberation for moving forward is the best bet,» said Mirwaiz.
He further said that his family and his colleagues in Hurriyat Conference have always advocated dialogue and even paid heavy price for this political stand. «If lasting peace and progress of people is our aim, our approach should also reflect it,» he said. Mirwaiz stated that the government's policy of harassment continues and he and his family members are being targeted. He said that the government should rethink and revisit its policy of harassment and discrimination.
