Miss Universe 2023 is surely going to mark many firsts breaking stereotypes that has manifested around the pageant over the years. From transgender competitors to plus size model, Miss Universe 2023 will find itself mentioned in the history of the competition.
The 72nd edition of the international beauty pageant will feature two transgender women, two mothers and one plus-sized model aiming for the crown. Miss Nepal, Jane Dipika Garrett, is the first plus sized model to have entered the international competition.
Garrett, 22, emerged as a crowd favourite during the preliminaries held on Wednesday, November 15 in El Salvador as she walked the runway. However, Garett's inclusion was immediately crowded in controversy.
