Mizoram People’s Movement (ZPM) is set to take the reins of power in Mizoram with the formation of a new council of ministry, likely to be sworn in on Friday. Lalduhoma, the Chief Ministerial face of ZPM and a former IPS officer turned politician, is spearheading the discussions on government formation.
The recently concluded assembly polls saw ZPM securing a decisive victory, clinching 27 seats out of the total 40, while the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) faced a setback with only 10 seats.
Congress secured one seat, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) improved its performance, going from one seat in 2018 to two in the 2023 elections.
In a notable turn of events, ZPM's Lalthansanga emerged victorious in the Aizawl East-1 seat, defeating the incumbent Chief Minister and MNF candidate Zoramthanga. The ZPM, known for fielding fresh faces, is gearing up for crucial discussions on cabinet formation and portfolio distribution in a meeting scheduled for Tuesday night.
A ZPM leader emphasized, “The Tuesday night meeting will finalize key matters, including the formation of the new cabinet.
