Mizoram chief minister Lalduhoma said that Mizoram is keen to offer eco-friendly and sustainable tourism that respects the fragile ecology of the State and its meagre population but not interested in mass tourism.
Merchants' Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) organised a Felicitation & Interactive Session of the new Mizoram chief minister in Kolkata.
He said, “Mizoram is keen to offer eco-friendly and sustainable tourism that respects the fragile ecology of the State and its meagre population but is not interested in mass tourism”.
He said that Mizoram is the second largest producer of bamboo in Northeastern India and second largest producer of strawberries in India. It is a gold mine for researchers seeking out medicinal and aromatic plants.
He said that the government is focusing on these sectors to bring faster growth.
He mentioned that the Government of Mizoram has taken a 100-day programme in which they have set out to achieve and implement certain goals, one of which is deciding that 2024 will be a year of financial consolidation for Mizoram, keeping in mind the precarious financial position of the state.
The chief minister said, “This is my first visit outside Mizoram — indeed, my maiden speech outside the State after becoming Chief Minister and as someone who, for years, has nurtured a deep rooted desire to change the system and the way Government in general is run, I believe that unless we begin to affect such change now, Mizoram is headed down a very deep hole, especially financially, that will be extremely difficult to get out of later.
