Narendra Modi on Saturday visited the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam. It was his first visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In his two-hours long trip, PM Modi enjoyed elephant and jeep safaris in the park.
Modi first undertook the elephant safari in Mihimukh area of the central Kohora range of the park.
Clad in jungle attire consisting of a fatigue jacket and hat, PM Modi embarked on an elephant named 'Pradyumna' guided by the skilled mahout, Raju. The entourage of 16 elephants followed him as he traversed the mesmerizing safari route encompassing the Dagland and Foliomari areas. During his tour, PM Modi had the delightful opportunity to feed sugarcane to three elephants — Lakhimai, Pradyumna, and Phoolmai.
The Prime Minister then embarked on a jeep safari within the same forest range, making a stop at the Daflang Watch Tower to marvel at the sanctuary's breathtaking vistas. While exploring the Kaziranga National Park, the Prime Minister was blessed with sightings of a tiger dashing past his path, as well as the iconic one-horned rhinoceros, wild buffaloes, deer, and a multitude of avian species.
During the trip, Modi also interacted with members of 'Van Durga', the team of women forest guards who are at the forefront of conservation efforts, elephant mahouts and forest officials.
