The respected equity analyst is getting his feet under the desk at stockbroker MST Financial and will get back to covering Australia’s banking behemoths.
“In a world where equity markets are as challenging as ever, and commission wallets have shrunk, fund managers demand the very best investment insights and can only pay for the very best analysts,” MST chief executive Gerard Satur told staff on Tuesday.
“Brian has been an authority in the financials sector for a long time, has unparalleled industry insight and a track record of successful bold calls.”
Jefferies poached Johnson from rival investment bank CLSA in 2019 during a raid on the business. The analyst is well known for his probing questions and outspoken criticism of underperforming banks, which Satur noted will be welcomed at MST.
His decades-long career also includes stints at JPMorgan and Macquarie Bank.
