MAMI, returns in physical form after a hiatus of four years.
After an online-only avatar during the pandemic, MAMI 2023, sponsored by Jio, will be back for ten days in the Maximum City. Starting October 27, the film fest goes on till November 5. Across the opening weekend of October 27-29, films will be screened at the swank 2,000-plus-seater Grand Theatre at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre.
For Mumbai movie buffs, the last weekend has the vibe of an extravaganza! Over 250 movies are slated to be screened — with more than 40 world premieres. This year's edition has a bunch of short films, retrospectives, tributes. It also has a segment on the recaps of the past four editions when it was online. This time, the gala also boasts of 45 Asia premieres, 70 South Asia premieres, and 13 sections.
Film-maker Mira Nair — of 'Salaam Bombay' and is heading the jury for South Asia Competition of the 2023 Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. The South Asia Competition will lead the awards categories — there are 14 films making their debuts.
«If we don't tell our own stories, no one else will. My mantra for a long time, which is why I am honoured to preside over the MAMI jury for the South Asia competition this year. Winning the Caméra d'Or for my first film, 'Salaam Bombay!', opened horizons everywhere. Our MAMI jury looks forward to doing the same for young filmmakers today,» Nair said in a statement.
