The event-the most popular in Asia by number of participants and among the top 10 globally-saw more than 10,000 runners each in the full and half marathon. The 'Dream Run' saw the highest turnout at 24,238 participants.
«It is not just that the Tata Mumbai Marathon has grown, but it has become something which has ignited a running revolution in India,» said Vivek Singh, joint managing director at Procam International-the marathon organiser. «Every 90 seconds, there is an amateur runner somewhere in the country that's lacing up and hitting the road,» he said.
Except for the Half Marathon which began at Mahim, all the other races started in the vicinity of the iconic CSMT station. While the 42-kilometer full marathon witnessed the highest participation this year at around 11,000, the 21 km Half Marathon saw 13,000 participants.
Over 7,000 people participated in the Open 10K, while the senior citizen run and champions with disability categories saw more than 1,000 participants each.
