Shivakumar on Wednesday took potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying he cut LPG cylinder prices by Rs 200 apiece due to the pressure from the Congress party's guarantee schemes his state was implementing.
Hours before AICC leader Rahul Gandhi rolled out the Gruha Lakshmi scheme involving a monthly payout of Rs 2000 per woman head of a family, Shivakumar, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister, said the monthly transfer of cash under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme included Rs 500 to soften the blow due to the increase in prices of LPG cylinders.
Taking a dig at the PM, the KPCC president wondered why the BJP was offering Rs 1500 to families in Madhya Pradesh if he believed `freebies’ bankrupted the governments. He also sought to know why he cut the LPG cylinder prices by Rs 200 if such giveaways indeed burdened governments.
The Centre cut the gas cylinder prices after the BJP came under pressure in the states it was in power as people there were asking if the Congress-ruled states supported women with cash payouts, what stopped them from doing so.
«That is why the BJP government is emulating the Karnataka model. We have no issues with the Centre giving money to people of this country.
But it is clear the BJP is intimidated by the Karnataka model,» Shivakumar said.
Shakti, Gruha Jyothi and Anna Bhagya had been a big hit, and womenfolk all across the country were deeply impressed by the Karnataka government's initiatives. «We have completed 100 days in power.
