NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, who have been on the International Space Station (ISS) since June, will join a live press conference today. The event is scheduled for September 13 at 11:45 pm IST and will be streamed on NASA+, the NASA app, and the agency’s official website.
«The pair will participate in a news conference aboard the International Space Station in low Earth orbit,» said the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
Williams and Wilmore launched aboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft on June 5 for an intended 8-day mission, reaching the ISS on June 6. Due to issues with the Starliner, their stay was extended to several months, and NASA confirmed their return is now delayed until February 2025. They will return aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft as part of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-9 mission.
Before the uncrewed return, Williams communicated with flight controllers, saying, «You guys it's time to bring Calypso home. We have your backs and you have got this. Bring her back to Earth.»
The astronauts will remain on the space station as part of the Expedition 71/72 crew and will return to Earth in February 2025 aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft on NASA's SpaceX Crew-9 mission.
