President Droupadi Murmu appointed Narendra Modi as the next Prime Minister of India after a delegation of leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) submitted letters of support in his favour on Friday. The alliance had earlier unanimously chosen him for the post of Prime Minister, head of the grouping and leader of the house in the Lok Sabha through a resolution passed at the parliamentary party meeting.

In a press communique, Rashtrapati Bhavan said, “The President, having satisfied herself on the basis of the various letters of support received that the BJP-led NDA alliance, which is also the largest pre-election alliance, is in a position to command majority support of the newly constituted 18th Lok Sabha and to form a stable government, appointed Shri Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India exercising powers vested in her under Article 75(1) of the Constitution of India.”
She sought his suggestion for a suitable date for the swearing-in ceremony, which has now been officially scheduled for the evening of June 9.
