
Nearly 100 companies expected to lay off employees in March: Reports
Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notices received by employees. Before implementing mass layoffs, companies have to warn their employees about this in advance, with a WARN notice. This is a required prerequisite required under the Worker Adjustment and Training Notification Act.
Although tech layoffs have dominated the news, employees are being dismissed across various industries as companies try to increase their profits. The number of employees laid off by each company ranges from as few as one or ten to as many as 500.
Companies to announce layoffs in March
Many companies have been struggling financially in the years after the pandemic. This is likely due to rising inflation (which makes everything more expensive) and changes in what customers want to buy. These challenges have made it hard for some businesses to stay profitable and retain themselves.
The list of companies that are likely to lay off some staff includes Intel, FedEx, Neiman Marcus, and John Deere.
Macy's has recently said that it will close 66 stores, as part of a larger plan to shut down 150 stores over the next three years. As a result, the company will be laying off hundreds of employees. This is likely due to changes in shopping habits of consumers and efforts to reduce costs.
