Netflix has been facing tough competition in the UK from BBC iPlayer which has also outpaced its rivals such as ITVX and Channel 4 in terms of growth, as per a report.
BBC Content Boss Charlotte Moore in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter claimed that the viewing growth of BBC iPlayer has been more than that of Netflix, ITVX and Channel 4 in the UK.
BBC iPlayer has also become the VOD platform with the fastest growth in the UK, as per the report in The Hollywood Reporter.
Netflix on October 17 said it added more than five million subscribers in the recently ended quarter but signaled slowing growth. The streaming juggernaut said it ended September with 282.7 million subscribers, reporting a profit of $2.4 billion on revenue that jumped 15 percent to $9.8 billion compared with the same period a year earlier.
Netflix said it continued to build up its US advertising business, which is on track to launch in Canada by the end of this year and in other countries in 2025.
