labour union Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has filed a complaint with the Ministry of Labour and Employment on behalf of IT employees facing delayed onboarding issues. NITES has alleged that over 200 Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) lateral candidates, who have received offer letters, have been informed that their joining date has been postponed by a period of three months. ET has reviewed a copy of the complaint.
NITES has requested an investigation into the issue as well as remedial action for the affected employees. The union has requested that TCS be directed to pay the affected employees full salaries for three months. It has also requested that TCS be directed to provide the affected employees access to the company's employee assistance programs apart from helping them find alternate job opportunities within TCS.
A response from TCS is awaited. “This unexpected delay has caused immense hardship to the affected employees, who had already resigned from their previous jobs in good faith after receiving employment offers from TCS,” said Harpreet Singh Saluja, President, NITES. Saluja said that employees trusted the offer letters provided by TCS, which assured them of a smooth transition into their new roles.
However, upon reaching the TCS office on the designated joining dates, they were informed about the unfortunate delay, leaving them in a state of uncertainty and vulnerability. “These employees, who possess varying levels of experience ranging from 1.8 to up to 15 years, are now left jobless and without any source of income. These employees were already working in other companies when they received offer letters from TCS,” said Saluja in a statement.
