Kumar arrived in New Delhi to attend the first NDA meeting after the just-concluded general elections. «He will discuss his party's share in the Union Council of Ministers with the BJP leadership at an appropriate time. He has long experience with BJP as an ally and so he is calm,» a person close to the CM told ET.
JDU insiders said although it was difficult to read Kumar's mind, he may try to suggest a minister for every third MP. «By this logic, JDU will have four, including junior ministers,» an insider said. Kumar has a very cordial relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was unlikely to make a hard bargain, he said. Kumar's government is dependent on BJP, and it reduces his bargaining power.
JDU may prefer ministries that can help Kumar's development model. «I won't be surprised if he demands the petroleum ministry to promote ethanol industry. Agriculture ministry may also be a choice.»
