Legacy non-tech companies — the likes of steelmaker Tata Steel, engineering firm Larsen & Toubro and chocolate major Mondelez — are too hiring AI talent, as they adopt new technologies to stay ahead of competition. According to recruitment services firms, demand for AI talent from non-tech sectors is as much as 50% more compared with last year.
They are hiring both external AI specialists, including tech companies, and skilling their existing employees on AI in their operations. The AI roles in demand include machine learning engineers, AI security specialists, AI infrastructure managers, AI writers, drone experts and AI project managers.
Over the last two financial years, Tata Steel started expanding the coverage of Integrated Remote Operations Centres. This enabled it to remotely control 100% operations of three sinter plants in Jamshedpur.
Recently, it also brought all agglomerate operations of Tata Steel Jamshedpur into remote control, with AI models providing real-time insights and process predictability to the operators, the company said. Tata Steel is now targeting to increase remote coverage to more of its sites.
«We are also evaluating technological developments like 5G, metaverse and quantum computing for the future of remote operations,» said the company spokesperson.
