The festival is widely celebrated on a large scale across Maharashtra, where Dahi-Handi competition is a common tradition. As a part of this competition, earthen pots filled with curd (Dahi-Handi) are hung mid-air and participants called 'Govindas', dressed in colourful clothes, make a human pyramid to reach the pot and break it.
