Onam is viewed as a time for feasting and cultural bonding. It brings together people from different backgrounds. «Onam is something beyond a harvest celebration; it is a festival of Kerala's cultural identity, solidarity, and the soul of giving,» highlights the depth of the festival’s significance.
2024’s Onam will begin on September 6 and end on September 15. The main day, Thiruvonam, will also be on September 15. The festival starts with Atham and concludes with Chithira. Other days include Chodi, Vishakam, Anizham, Thriketa, Moolam, Pooradam, and Uthradom.
Onam, Kerala's vibrant harvest festival, spans 10 days, each marked by unique rituals and festivities that celebrate unity and prosperity.
Day 1 — Atham: The festival begins with the creation of the Pookalam, a flower carpet, alongside prayers to invite a festive atmosphere.
