It’s official that One Piece season 2 will be released in late 2025, which marks a gap of over two years since the debut of season 1. While waiting that long between seasons has become common for streaming shows, it poses a challenge for One Piece, which has such an expansive universe. Though this gap is expected, fans may feel the wait is long, especially after the first season built up expectations. However, the good news is that the release window confirms that the show is well into post-production, and fans can look forward to seeing it come together.

The long wait between seasons of One Piece isn’t unusual for big-budget productions, but it raises questions about the challenges involved in adapting such a long-running anime into live-action. The first season worked hard to blend the anime’s over-the-top visuals with a more realistic style, and season 2 will face similar challenges. With over 1,100 episodes of One Piece to adapt, Netflix must manage how much story to condense into each season. Additionally, with the anime still ongoing, Netflix's live-action version is always at risk of lagging behind.
