DeepSeek AI, whose AI assistant took over ChatGPT in terms of downloads on Apple's App Store on Monday, has released several large language models (LLMs). DeepSeek Coder, DeepSeek LLM and DeepSeek R1 are among its latest releases, and they are free of charge for researchers and commercial users.

The startup claims to have built its top-performing model R1 within two months, and with an investment of less than $6 million, as against the $100 million that OpenAI reportedly spent on training its GPT-4 model.
