OpenAI stated that U.S. government agencies can deploy ChatGPT Gov within their own Microsoft Azure commercial cloud environments, giving them access to many of the features and capabilities offered by ChatGPT Enterprise, such as custom GPTs. The company emphasized that ChatGPT Gov allows agencies to maintain control over security, privacy, and compliance, meeting strict cybersecurity standards like IL5, CJIS, ITAR, and FedRAMP High. This configuration is also designed to expedite internal approvals for using OpenAI's tools with sensitive, non-public data.
In the blog post, OpenAI outlined several features of ChatGPT Gov, noting that while many overlap with those of ChatGPT Enterprise, they come with enhanced security. According to the company, government officials can securely save and share conversations within a protected workspace, as well as upload text and image files. Powered by the flagship GPT-4 model, the platform also allows employees to create and share custom GPTs within their secure environment.
