Most countries have selected their films as all the nominations are to be sent to the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences by 5 pm Monday, October 2. These films must meet all the qualifying conditions between December 1, 2022, and October 31, 2023.
Oscars 2024 Date
A shortlist of 15 films will be announced on December 21. The final nominees will be announced on January 23, 2024. The 96th Academy Awards ceremony will take place on March 10, 2024.
Hong Kong: 'A Light Never Goes Out'
Hong Kong has selected Anastasia Tsang's personal drama 'A Light Never Goes Out'. It narrates the story of a woman devastated by the death of her husband. She finds the conviction to fulfill his dream of making neon street signs.
Bangladesh: 'No Ground Beneath the Feet'
Directed by Mohammad Rabby Mridha and produced by Abu Shahed Emon, the film revolves around an ambulance driver in Dhaka and his wife, who struggle in a slowly shrinking river delta.
Sweden: 'Opponent'
Milad Alami's 'Opponent' is a politically sensitive drama. It had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year.
U.K.: 'The Zone of Interest'
Jonathan Glazer's 'The Zone of Interest' shows the horrific story of the Holocaust. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year and won the Grand Prix and the FIPRESCI Prize.
Nepal: 'Halkara'
