Nawaz Sharif on Friday claimed victory in national elections by declaring that his political party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has emerged as the largest in the vote.
Sharif has also shown interest in forming a coalition to form the government. He announced that he has tasked his younger brother and PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif to reach out to the Pakistan Peoples' Party's Asif Ali Zardari, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Fazlur Rehman and Muttahida Qaumi Movement's Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui for the formation of a coalition government.
The latest count published by the election panel showed his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) winning 61 seats, much below the 133 mark needed to stake claim to form a government.
