A Pakistani army major, according to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), lost his life during an Intelligence-Based Operation (IBO) in the Shakas district of Khyber. The operation was carried out by security forces in response to intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in the area. The incident took place during the night of July 5-6.
The army major has been identified as Major Shah, a 33-year-old individual hailing from Kohat, ARY News reported. An official statement read, "While the establishment of blocking positions to cut the escape routes of terrorists was underway, a party of terrorists was spotted by Major Abdullah who was leading the operation from the front", reported ARY News.
A confrontation ensued when security forces attempted to intervene, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire that tragically claimed the life of an army major, according to a statement by the ISPR, Subsequently, three terrorists, along with their facilitators, were apprehended by the security forces. Meanwhile, an ongoing sanitisation operation is being conducted in the area to ensure the eradication of any remaining terrorists, as reported by ARY News, citing the military's media wing.
"Security forces of Pakistan are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism, and such sacrifices of our soldiers further strengthen our resolve," the ISPR said.
