South Korean actor, Lee Sun-kyun, widely known for his role in the Oscar-winning film Parasite, was discovered deceased at the age of 48, in what appears to be a case of suicide.
Lee's body was found within a vehicle parked in a Seoul park, as reported by the Associated Press. His family's concern prompted a search, leading to the discovery after they revealed the existence of a note suggestive of suicide. Inside the car, authorities found a charcoal briquette alongside Lee, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The distressing incident follows a series of events involving the actor's interactions with law enforcement. Lee had been subjected to police interrogation on multiple occasions, reportedly lasting for extensive periods, in connection with allegations of illicit drug usage. This investigation stemmed from suspicions raised during a probe into drug circulation at a prestigious club in Seoul's Gangnam district, a known haunt frequented by Lee.
Amid these accusations, Lee's agency, HODU&U Entertainment, expressed profound sorrow and urged against the propagation of speculative and false information, seeking fairness for Lee's memory.
Notably, Lee had been under scrutiny since October when authorities disclosed an investigation into his alleged drug involvement. His agency responded by pledging cooperation while addressing Lee's claims of being coerced into drug consumption and subsequent blackmail.
