Congress high-command and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) under the 'INDIA' bloc found no takers among Delhi PCC representatives as they have forcefully aired before the high command their opposition to the Arvind Kejriwal-led party and pitched for the Congress contesting all seven Delhi Lok Sabha seats by opposing both the AAP and BJP. This overwhelming sentiment was aired at a meeting convened by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and de facto leader Rahul Gandhi with senior leaders of Delhi to discuss the party's preparations for the Lok Sabha seats in the seven Parliamentary constituencies of Delhi.
They pointed out that in the 2019 LS polls in Delhi in which BJP swept all seven seats, the Congress had come second, ahead of AAP in many of them. After the meeting, AICC in-charge Deepak Babaria told journalists: «The Delhi Congress functionaries present at the meeting were of the same view that Delhi has become directionless as the AAP government has undone all the good works done by the 15-year Sheila Dikshit government.
All the work done by the previous Congress regime has been wasted by the rule of the AAP government and the L-G. Therefore, the Delhi Congress leaders have conveyed to the leadership that the party must oppose the anti-people policy of these two parties (AAP and BJP)».
On the question of alliance with AAP, Babaria said it would be decided by the party central leadership. Senior leader of the Delhi Congress, Alka Lamba, said the meeting has decided to start poll preparation in all seven Delhi LS seats.
«At the three-hour meeting, Rahul Gandhi, Kharge ji, KC Venugopal and Deepak Babaria ji were present. It has been decided that we will contest all seven seats.»
