The PDP leader Iltija Mufti who lost her maiden assembly elections from her hometown of Bijbehara last year, started the signature campaign from her party headquarters in Srinagar.
«Alcohol and drugs is wrecking lives & families in J&K. We must come together to put an end to it before it’s too late,» said Iltija. She thanked people for participating in the signature campaign against drugs and alcohol. The authorities disallowed PDP to start the campaign in a public park outside their office saying that 'they didn't have the requisite permission for a public event.'
Three legislators Ahsan Pardesi from ruling National Conference, Fayaz Mir of PDP and Khursheed Sheikh of Awami Ittehad Party have submitted three seperate private member bills in the assembly for the upcoming budget session starting from March 3. Earlier Shiv Sena (UBT) and some other groups also held protests in Jammu demanding alcohol ban in J&K.
The AIP criticized PDP's for its alleged 'double standards' terming the signature campaign as desperate agent to stay relevant.
