People Magazine names Patrick Dempsey as 'Sexiest Man Alive' for 2023
People magazine has named Patrick Dempsey aka «McDreamy» as the Sexiest Man Alive of 2023.
Dempsey, who played the role of neurosurgeon Derek Shepherd on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, was revealed as the winner on Tuesday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where the actor also made an appearance. Dempsey succeeds Marvel star Chris Evans, who was crowned the Sexiest Man Alive in 2022.
“I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life," Dempsey, who is also a racing car driver, was quoted as saying by the PEOPLE's magazine in its cover story.
“It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive.”
When asked about what was his first thought after hearing the news, the 57-year-old said: “I was completely shocked, and then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid!”
“I’d completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position. So my ego is good.”
Answering a question about how will his kids respond to the recognition, The 'Made of Honor' star said,«they’re just going to make fun of me and pick on me and figure out every reason why I shouldn’t be.
Which is good, they keep me young.”
Dempsey will be seen next in Michael Mann–directed biopic Ferrari, in which will play the role of Italian driver Piero Taruffi.
The 57-year-old said that the film taught him a lesson in risk-taking — but off the track.
“I’d been following the movie for years, so I called Michael and said, ‘I want to discuss being a part of this,’ ” Dempsey said. “That taught me if you really want something, you have to do it yourself.”
Ferrari will hit theaters on December 25.
