Andra Day has joined the cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Disney+'s adaptation of Rick Riordan's popular book series. The acclaimed actor will play the role of Athena, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom and mother of Annabeth Chase.
Oscar-nominated actor Andra Day has joined the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians in its second season. Day, known for her work in The United States vs. Billie Holiday, where she earned both an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe award, will portray Athena, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom. Athena is also the mother of Annabeth Chase, one of the central characters in the series.
The announcement of Day's casting was made during the D23 event in Brazil. A video featuring Day as Athena was shared on social media platforms.

In addition to Day, Season 2 will introduce Tamara Smart as Thalia Grace, the daughter of Zeus, and Daniel Diemer as Tyson, Percy’s half-brother. Both Smart and Diemer join the main cast members from the previous season, including Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood. Other regular cast members, such as Charlie Bushnell and Dior Goodjohn, are also set to return.
