Recently, individuals on motorcycles threw a petrol bomb at a police vehicle that was escorting Director of NEEPCO (Personnel) Major General (retired) RK.
The incident took place at Demthring, located under the jurisdiction of the Madanrting police station, around 7.30 pm on Wednesday.
The Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills district, Rituraj Ravi, advised the public not to take the law into their own hands, warning that they will face legal consequences.
“We urge all peace-loving citizens not to take law into their own hands. But if somebody does that, we have to go as per law and ensure they are brought to justice,” the SP said.
“Our position is very clear. Committing a crime warrants justice for the individuals involved. We are not investigating anyone's associations of any kind. If there is a crime, there is a criminal and if there is a criminal, we have to go as per the law,” he added.
