petrol rose 3.4% while that of diesel dropped 3.7% year-on-year in June in a sharp slowdown from May's sales boom, according to the state oil marketing companies’ preliminary data. In May, the sales of petrol and diesel had grown 10% and 12%, respectively, over the previous year. The sales growth was 4.5% in LPG, and 17% in jet fuel. In June, the growth in jet fuel sold by state-run companies was 6%. The LPG sales declined 0.6% in June over the previous year. Petrol sales continued their growth on new vehicle sales, holiday travel as well as the summer season, which increases air conditioning needs in cars, industry executives said. Diesel sales slowed probably due to the arrival of monsoon. Rain reduces operations of irrigation pumps. It also brings down temperature, reducing energy demand. Holiday rush boosted jet fuel sales, which, however, are still nearly 5% lower than in pre-pandemic days.Fuel Sales Growth in June 2023
