PhonePe SmartSpeakers get a Bollywood twist! Merchants can now authenticate payments in Amitabh Bachchan's voice; here's how to do it
Amitabh Bachchan's distinctive voice.
Initially available in Hindi and English, PhonePe has planned to extend this industry-first celebrity voice feature to other languages in the near future.
Vivek Lohcheb, Head of Offline Business at PhonePe, expressed his enthusiasm about this new feature in a press release, stating, «We are delighted to launch a unique celebrity voice feature for our SmartSpeaker for merchant partners across India. Mr. Bachchan’s voice has an instant and universal recall, and it resonates with millions of Indians across the country.»
«Being a popular Indian app used by one in four Indians, we believe this collaboration will further elevate the popularity of the PhonePe SmartSpeaker for merchants and customers alike,» added Lohcheb.
How To Use Amitabh Bachchan’s Voice?
- Open the PhonePe for Business App
- Go to the SmartSpeaker section on the home screen
- Under ‘My SmartSpeaker’, click on ‘SmartSpeaker Voice’
- Choose Bachchan’s voice in the preferred language
- Click on ‘Confirm’ to activate the voice
- The device gets rebooted with the updated language in Bachchan’s voice
The PhonePe SmartSpeakers offer voice payment notifications in multiple Indian languages, up to four days of battery life, dedicated data connectivity, a battery level LED indicator for easy monitoring, audio alerts for low battery levels, and a dedicated replay button for the last transaction.

PI Industries’ weak core business keeps investors on edge

Subscribe to enjoy similar stories.MUMBAI: India’s listed electronics manufacturers are under pressure to defend profitability as the mobile-phone assembly boom slows, prompting a shift towards higher-value industrial electronics.Investors remained jittery through the last fiscal, driven by concerns that slowing consumer sentiment could weigh on the rapid growth that electronics manufacturing services (EMS) firms have delivered so far.In an interview with Mint, Jasbir Singh Gujral, managing director of Syrma SGS Technology Ltd, India’s second-largest listed EMS firm, said, “We’re increasingly looking to capture a larger chunk of contracts from defence, aerospace and med-tech verticals, all of which represent opportunities for original design manufacturing, and also bring significantly higher margins. We’ve already started this transition, and we plan to do more of it this fiscal.”Beyond mobile phones and laptops, EMS firms are expanding into smart metres for electricity boards, aerospace and defence subsystems, railway safety instrumentation, printed circuit boards and display assemblies, and medical devices deployed in hospitals.India’s annual mobile phone shipments have remained subdued since the covid-19 pandemic, with industry estimates pointing to a single-digit decline this calendar year from 152 million smartphones shipped last year.The margin pressure driving this shift is increasingly visible.In FY26, Syrma SGS reported an operating margin of 7.1%, up 2.3 percentage points.
