"Weather Warning for Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh are under a heavy rainfall alert from July 8 to 9. Be prepared for intense rain and take necessary precautions," the IMD stated. It also issued a yellow alert for certain districts in Kerala.
As per a report by TOI, continuous and heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand resulted in the closure of nearly 100 roads, including state highways and national highways, on Saturday. As per the report, landslides were the primary cause for these closures. The heavy rains also led to waterlogging, traffic congestion, and road damage in hilly areas.
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, as of Saturday evening, 19 roads in Champawat, 15 in Nainital, 11 in Chamoli, 10 in Pithoragarh, seven in Almora, six in Pauri, five in Dehradun, four in Tehri and Rudraprayag each, and two in Bageshwar were reported as blocked. Several parts of north India, including the national capital of Delhi, witnessed an intense spell of rain on Saturday, leading to waterlogging in several important road stretches and commuters facing traffic woes, PTI reported. Down south, some parts of Kerala witnessed heavy rain in the morning hours, causing traffic snarls and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
