Narendra Modi called Rajmata Amrita Roy, BJP candidate from Krishnanagar and ancestor of Krishna Chandra Roy’s family in Bengal and expressed his commitment to fight corruption. Roy is contesting against expelled Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra. The PM had called Sandeshkhali victim and BJP Basirhat Rekha Patra yesterday.
The Prime Minister spoke about his commitment to fight corruption. “We are fighting for a corruption-free country. There is a clear divide-when we are fighting against corruption, there is another side which is fighting for corruption,” Modi said.
Modi told the BJP candidate to inform people of Krishnanagar, while campaigning about Modi’s intent to find a way to look into legal options, to return the money, which was allegedly attached by the Enforcement Directorate, after coming back to power.
Amrita Roy comes from Raja Krishna Chandra Roy's family, known as a social reformer, and the Prime Minister said he also read about the reformer and his work.
As per details of the conversation shared by the saffron party, the Prime Minister mentioned that ED has attached money worth Rs 3,000 crore while probing corruption in Bengal.
“In Bengal around Rs 3000 crore was attached by ED which was taken as bribe from poor people. If we come to power, I intend to return the money to the poor people. I want to find a legal way,” Modi told Roy during a telephonic conversation with the BJP candidate.
