The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body which led the farmers' protest against three farm laws, announced that a farmers Mahapanchayat will be held in New Delhi on March 14 at the Ramleela ground. SKM is not part of the 'Delhi Chalo' march, however, it has been supporting it.
SKM, which comprises Punjab's largest farmer union like BKU (Ugrahan) and also BKU (Tikait) that enjoys influence in western Uttar Pradesh, also announced a Black Day and a tractor march on national highways on Monday.
SKM (non-political), an offshoot of SKM, is leading the ongoing farmers protest and had given the call for 'Delhi Chalo' march to press the Centre for minimum support price (MSP) guarantee law, besides other demands.
Talking to reporters in Patiala, farmer leader Sarvan Singh Pandher, prominent face of SKM (non-political), demanded that the Punjab government should register a murder case against those who are responsible for the death of 21-year-old Subhkaran Singh. «We want the Punjab government to register a case under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC,» Pandher said.
He also demanded action against Haryana paramilitary force personnel for allegedly damaging 25-30 tractor-trolleys after entering Punjab's territory.
Another farmer leader of SKM (non-political) Jagjit Singh Dallewal demanded that the Punjab government grant martyr status to Subhkaran Singh and give appropriate compensation to his family.
